How can you help?

St.Gregory the Great Home Page

St. Gregory the Great Church helps to meet the emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of our community. The Parish Nurse Program through its health and healing ministry assists in fulfilling these needs.

The Parish Nurse Program recognized the need for persons to receive support in their growth toward a healthy lifestyle and wellness. The church is an excellent setting for persons to share and learn about health promotion. It is also a comfortable place to discuss current health care issues and concerns.

Who is the Parish Nurse?

A parish nurse is a registered nurse who is committed to the healing mission of the church. A parish nurse is not a substitute for home health nurses or other health professionals.. When such care is needed, the appropriate referrals are made.

The Parish Nurse is:

  • A Health Educator, providing opportunities for the faith community to learn about health topics.
  • A Health Counselor, listening and discussing health issues with persons in their home, health care facility or church.
  • A Referral Service, serving as a liaison to connect people with appropriate community services.
  • A Facilitator, identifying, recruiting, and coordinating health care volunteers.
  • An Integrator, assisting people to bring together faith and health in their lives.

Parish Nursing at St. Gregory the Great Parish

Kim Pascuzzi, R.N. is our parish nurse. With the help of other nurses in the congregation, Kim has coordinated blood pressure screening after 10:30 mass on Sundays in June with a great turnout.

As summer reaches it peak, the parish nurse program provided an informational evening on summer related topics, with a talk on skin cancer prevention by Dr. Cretella, and a water safety seminar by Alex-Hall Heron. Thanks to all who attended and made this night a success.
